As seen in the shop window of Dixons, Guildford.

"Your computer might be at risk". Perhaps this computer has a built in burglar detection unit?

Oh, and another thing. How can NIS "might" be out of date. It is or it isn't. :?

No wonder Macs seem such a more viable option for new users.

Yes but look at the pricetag.

It is probably flagging that it hasn't been able to check for updated virii lists from the Norton site, and so in terms of completeness may be "out of date".

No no no no no no. Silly you; that pc is a Packard Bell. I've heard their very protected.

No wonder Norton give these programs for free, they charge astronomical subscription fees to the idiots brainwashed by OMG SPYWAER!!!! propaganda. A fool and their money are soon parted!

Never try and tell this to someone though, because they tend to get incredibly shirty, especially if their computer does end up with a virus. Telling them it's their fault for being so stupid in the first place also does not help.

I refer the honorable broken record to the answer I gave some moments ago.

Ah, but if you had been clever enough to put in place preventative measures, then you would not have had a spyware problem at all!

(Note: Taking "preventative measures" need not necessarily mean installing Norton Money Hoover 2005)

I have reproduced something I wrote in this thread below:
Common sense, eh? The average computer novice usually cannot distinguish between an official OS dialogue box and a fake one produced by "malware". Put yourself in the position of a new computer user. What would you do if a box on your computer said "Your computer may be at risk - press 'Yes' for immediate protection"?

Mac OS X is elegant, but I just can't get used to it, it's very fiddly.

Windows XP randomly crashes, but is easy to use.

I'm currently using Mac OSX 86 on one hard drive and Windows Vista and XP on seperate partitions. I only use Mac when either Windows crashes. Mac is extremely stable. Having seen Windows Vista they are trying to copy Apple by making effects on windows, transparency etc. I don't like that. On my 3Ghz computer Windows Vista is slow with all the effects due to DWM, perhaps the end product would be better.

Apple: elegance.
Microsoft: usability.

Good nighhht.
