Hello, I am a resident of Goole in East Yorkshire. A lot of people say it isn't a very nice place, but I regard it as alright really.
I wonder what other people on here think of Goole?
Goole - opinions required
Is it pronounced like "Ghoul" or is it pronounced like "Goolie"?Goole wrote:Hello, I am a resident of Goole in East Yorkshire. A lot of people say it isn't a very nice place, but I regard it as alright really.

Goole has one VERY MAJOR disadvantage.
It's on the way to Hull.
So, to utilise one of the popular phrases of the moment, we won't go there.

I live about 5 miles away (in Camblesforth actually) and TBH, in my experience, it's not all too great.
Being spat at by 8 year old Goolies (nickname for people from Goole around here) that I'd never seen before because apparently I'm a "DIRTY MOSHER" for going and buying some guitar strings.
Not going back there for a while.

I know Goole very well, I have several friends who have lived there. The name Goole apparently means 'open sewer', which in some ways sums it up! My friends actually lived for a while on Richard Cooper Street and Phoenix Street, the drugs capitals of East Yorkshire!

Used to do the odd bit of work for a firm doing radio commercials, up the Beverley Road, somewhere, but that was a long, long time ago.Sput wrote:Assuming you could make it to Hull and back
Not sure I could cope with Hull nowadays.
'Er indoors has relatives in Cleethorpes; and that's plenty close enough.
