I came across the above software. Very handy as I could do with a bit of additional disk space without buying an external hard drive.

But before I go ahead and do this, I thought I'd ask Metropollers as some members are more versed in things like this than I am.

Surely Google would see this as a misuse (or at the very least unauthorised use) of their server space and you'd be in danger of losing the files when they find a spare 10 minutes to write a bit of code to disable this...

Especially with alternatives like SkyDrive around.

there are some versions of this type of software that split larger files into 10mb chunks and attach them to other addresses. However as has been mentioned, it's a bit pointless when there are other companies providing this service for free and legitimately.

and you can buy a 1tb drive for peanuts these days - i don't think i'd ever use some sort of online 'vault' service to keep backups of my vital files - for a start you never know who might have access to them (or who the company may give access to), or how good the security is.

$99 for a 500GB drive in one of our electronics stores I noted today.

I think that translates to around £40.

£79? Bloody hell. And I'll get Clubcard points with that too. Marvelous.

Most people in my family have Apples, and have an external hardrive for Timemachine. Oddly though they constanstly leave it plugged in, even when going away, so chances are if we are broken in to, their back-up will vamoose as well.

Doesn't seem that odd, would you usually hide your backup?
