Songs of the summer..
My summer-defining song is most definitely Here Comes the Summer, by the Fiery Furnaces. Aren't you glad to know!

Mental anxiety, Mental breakdowns, Menstrual cramps, Menopause... Did you ever notice how all our problems begin with Men?
I have this theory that the quality of summery music depends on how good the weather is that year. Summer 1996 was wonderfully scorching, and that was the year we had classics like:
OMC - How Bizarre (or 'Alphazar' as I thought it was called as a kid, had this strange theory he was singing about some mystical wizard or something)
Los Del Rio - Macarena (wonderful memories of Ibiza!)
Peter Andre - Mysterious Girl (what? It's brilliant!)
Pet Shop Boys - Se A Vida E (see, they have made good songs since the 80s, it's just everyone forgets them)
1997 was very warm as well, I don't think it rained for weeks on end:
No Mercy - Where Do You Go (my lovely, I wanna know...)
Sash - Ecuador (we need more dance music like this now)
Gala - Freed From Desire (and this)
Dario G - Sunchyme (and especially this, kept off number 1 by bloody Elton John and his bloody Diana song)
What? I love the late 90s.

At the expense of sounding incredibly sad, the 3 songs that have got me in a summery mood for the last few years have been:
Shakira - Hips Don't Lie
Nelly Furtado - Maneater
Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child
All getting loads of airtime back in 2006 - to date still the most recent year we had a decent summer. Last year was a washout, and this year whilst looking a little better still has far too many grey/rainy days for my liking considering that it's July. So I still like to pull out the classic 3 and think back to a time of weeks of unbroken beautiful weather - hopefully this year will be a good'un

Not forgetting the ultimate summer anthem from that year:Billy wrote:I have this theory that the quality of summery music depends on how good the weather is that year. Summer 1996 was wonderfully scorching, and that was the year we had classics like:
Dodgy - Good Enough
Now that song is just brilliant and sounds just as fresh today. I remember the live performance on Top Of The Pops was back-to-back with the first ever TV appearance by the Spice Girls doing 'Wannabe', and it was hosted by Keith Allen.
You are incredibly sad.cwathen wrote: Shakira - Hips Don't Lie
