I've been utterly shocked at this little discovery. Putting aside their use of Kerry in their ads, the prices are so much cheaper than elsewhere and the range of foods is pretty impressive.

All the staples like eggs and bread are way lower than Scotmid prices - branded products such as Kingsmill is only 80p a loaf (£1.22 in tesco), eggs were £1.20 per 6 compared to £1.55 in Tesco.

I understand that frozen foods were bound to be cheaper but I really wasn't expecting to see such a difference in the fresh produce and across the board generally.

Scotmid's brocolli prices went from 99p per head to £1.49 in the space of 2 weeks!

Another thing I noticed in Iceland was the extensive special offers on the brands. Cross & Blackwell's "Pasta in 5!" is both inexpensive to start but is on a BOGOF, so one can fill the cupboards for no money at all. Diet Coke 2L is actually a 3L bottle for less money than a 2L elsewhere and even Triple Velvet loo roll was 33% extra free with a low regular price.

I am shocked and impressed.

Screw the snobbery and Kerry hating - I'm shopping at Iceland.

I'm treating myself to Crispy Chilli Beef with egg fried rice, all from Iceland for £3.

Looks delish. In the oven now as I haven't had any lunch yet. Or breakfast, come to think of it.

Taking it old school today: Tuna pasta bake. Incidentally the mix is 80p in Sainsburys but only 55p in Tesco. It's a brilliant scam to only tell the shoppers you've matched Tesco's prices for certain products and put them next to ones that are horribly overpriced.

Ach, I overcooked it a little so the rice was a touch dry. I'll perfect it next time.

Huge plateful, too - and if I'd bought that dish from the chinese in my street it would have cost three or four times the price.

Aaah good old Iceland. My nephew works there and if i go at the right time on the right day he gives some discount.

Tonights dinner is baked potatoes with cheese and beans.
I bought a kilo sack of spuds today from the local tayta farm for £6.50 and the beans and cheese i got from lidl. Potatoes in all its various forms will be on the Hellfire menu for the next couple of months now.
