Indian Call centres
Having worked briefly last year in 2 call centres (orange and 118118) I can say that their asian counterparts are not welcome colleagues. They transfer calls when then cannot understand UK accents.
On a personal note, I don't like talking to overseas call centre agents. Where possible with Sky I ask for someone in the Irish Call Centre. I find them the most helpful (and they sound so nice too!

I've had a few of those, including some rather interesting ones from BT where the phone rang and I got a recorded voiceover saying "This is a message from BT: We are sorry, but we do not have someone to take you call" or something to that mind - they'd rang me and didn't even have the curtousy to answer the phone!peterrocket wrote:Has anyone had it when your phone rings, you answer it, and their reaction on the phone is as if you rung them?
Then when you do try to ring BT they still refuse to answer the phone - does anybody answer the phone at BT???

Yep but they know they're ringing you as they work in outbound calls, when I answered my phone it was a case of them going "Hello - can I help you?"Sput wrote:That's because their phone rings too, thanks to the joy of automated dialling.peterrocket wrote:Has anyone had it when your phone rings, you answer it, and their reaction on the phone is as if you rung them?
I know. They don't necessarily know if it's inbound or outbound since they don't dial. The system dials usually and both ends ring - hence the delay sometimes.peterrocket wrote:Yep but they know they're ringing you as they work in outbound calls, when I answered my phone it was a case of them going "Hello - can I help you?"Sput wrote:That's because their phone rings too, thanks to the joy of automated dialling.peterrocket wrote:Has anyone had it when your phone rings, you answer it, and their reaction on the phone is as if you rung them?

Call practically any BT number, then ignore all the menu options and just keep hitting the zero button.
That's the engineers way of getting through to a real human being IN GREAT BRITAIN.
It'll often say something like "sorry but zero isn't a valid option", but ignore that and hit zero again.

Must confess I've never had that happen to me, but I can speak a fair bit of "GPO/BT speak", so can usually talk the recipient into making sure he transfers me to a helpful person.nodnirG kraM wrote:Except that in my experience the 0 recipient is unable/willing to help me and has to transfer me to someone in Bombay who "can".

I'm just off the phone to Orange (in the UK). I'm waiting for a cheque to clear and was a bit concerned about my service being disconnected. They couldn't have been more helpful and have given me 10 days grace for my payment to clear, and said my service will stay on.
My thanks to Lee, Alex and Vicky at Orange. What a lovely bunch of people.
