1 - 100 I hate Pointless Lists

- Lists of people's music collections,
- Lists of people's favourite films,
- Myspace (its all about lists really)

Well i don't mind them really, Channel 4 make some nice shows around lists, perfect when there is nothing else on to watch.

I like them only to see old clips and secrets about the programmes, films or albums, but I don't like the fact that it will be said to be the "ultimate" list, as in "it's official". Because it isn't, and it never will be.

What annoys me? Spurious 'surveys' being cynically produced by companies hoping to get a bit of free press (Lactofree in this case) - and the pseudo-journalism that leads to them actually being printed.

This is the world we live in - it's very common for big companies to comission a survey whilst doing market research to give media a "human interest" story that helps sell the product at the same time.

I personally don't have a problem with them - it's just a line at the end of the story usually (SOME choose not to mention it at all...but it's courtesy to throw in the free plug).

However it's the crafty ones you have to watch out for like "Vodafone is the UKs favourite mobile phone operator. Blah blah blah.." Then right at the end you find "In the survey comissioned by Vodafone..."
Good Lord!

Hey, they're already giving me freebies. And I'm not complaining. I'm easily bought with quality products, you see, just not by cheap unconvincing journalism.

Promotional trailers for news and current affair programmes where it looks like the main presenter is taking part in an interview and not reading from dummy cards annoy me.
