The best way to destroy the BNP is to give them all the rope they need to hang themselves. Every time they call any of us, any politician, any of us, out for a debate, we take them on, and we show everyone how stupid they are. We have the arguments, and we will win. They will lie, about spurious documents they have received from their sources, and various conversations they've had with senior policemen, so you call their bluff. You show everyone they are wrong, and you win.
Making them illegal makes them into something of a "sub-culture" and therefore attractive to some. To beat them, we have to let them go free and make knobs of themselves trying to argue with us forever. We'll never get that opportunity while they're the sole voice heard by the ill-educated in prison.
Similarly by the media ignoring or constantly attacking them, you create a situation where they become attractive because they're 'underground' and mysterious.
If you broadcast their views, most people will be able to judge for themselves, they become a normal political grouping and, as has been said, shoot themselves in the foot.
It doesn't need any sort of media boycott or constant bashing by journalists - they can implode quite happily by themselves - if you let them have that rope.
