Morrisons is like going back to the 60's
Very true, the problem is that Morrisons and Safeway aren't the same, by getting rid of Safeway and replacing it with Morrisons you are getting rid of a supermarket culture and replacing it with something new and as the report says 'brutal', which is very true. Safeway has a reputation for being one of the big supermarkets that are aimed for people more of a higher class, where as Morrisons attracts to the lowest common denominator. Morrisons is good at running their own stores, people know what they are getting. I don't see any reason why they want to kill off Safeway, granted the company wishes to expand into Southern England and further into Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but they're getting rid of a great brand name is just suicide for Morrisons. It is very downmarket compared to Safeway.
I don't see any reason why Safeway has to go, I think the furthest it should be 'Morrisonsized' is all of this 'Enjoy The Change' crap, and posters they have at the minute that looks like it says 'More Reasons to Shop at Safeway', but it does say Morrisons, but also says 'Also Available at..'
I think Morrisons have brought in some of old Safeways own stuff, as they now have some more upmarket brands for the sandwiches and ready meals.
And for anyone who wants to know all Morrisons and Safeway stores in England and Wales will be closed on the 25th, 26th, 27th of December and 1st January. And apparently we are the only supermarket to give staff 3 days off!
