The full final release of Windows XP SP2 is now available on the Microsoft Website.

This download is a whopping 200mb, so its not one for users on dialup.

Happy patching

Goodness, have you seen the "hard disk space requirements" for this SP2 thing?

Now that's a major update.

Well half of windows has been recomplied so I wouldn't be surprised at that requirement

Is this another one of the updates that has dire effects for those (not me naturally) who have illegitimate copies of windows? I know SP1 didn't sit too well with that crowd...

Well it won't work on those installations of Windows using a handful of known pirated keys, let's put it that way.

They've blocked out a whole range of VLKs. Naturally a person in this situation should test an install in VMware beforehand.

I mean I know which keys are blacklisted and which are not but naturally I would not divulve this information with such disgusting abusers of dear Microsoft's licences.

Indeed. It makes me sick that people could think that windows is worth nothing!

it's a worthwhile update, internet explorer page rendering is a lot faster (faster than firefox, if i'm honest), and my system does seem more responsive, the firewall is much better too.

Is this the same handful of known pirated keys which stops SP1 from installing, or have they added more to the list?

Well there's a list of PID's somewhere on the MS website which are blacklisted.

I'm tempted to play around with it in vmware before installing it on any future XP boxes that I might get to see what's new and what's annoying.
