I generally love most of the "classic" Christmas songs and so picking a favourite or top five is pretty hard, but after much deliberations here are mine:

1 wizzard - I wish it would be Christmas everyday.
2 Chris rea - Driving home for Christmas
3 Slade - Merry Christmas Everybody
4 Wham - Last Christmas
5 Paul McCartney - Pipes of piece
6 Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime

There are so many others, I know I missed fairytale of new york love that too but it dies get perhaps the most airplay.

After I'd completed it all, recorded it, encoded it, uploaded it and booked my airtime slot, I realised to my horror I'd forgotten completely about Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime, which would probably be around about number 5 or 6.

Little piece of trivia - Paul McCartney has had the most Xmas number ones with 7 as either a part of the Beatles, Wings or Band Aid. It could be 8 if the Justice Collective get to number 1 on Sunday, which would also give Shane MacGowan his first Xmas #1 ironically, and Mel C her 4th. Whereas Cliff who seems synonymous with Christmas has had only 4 with the Shadows, on his own twice and with Band Aid II.

Indeed, it's a common misconception that Fairytale of New York was a Christmas Number 1, when it was actually pipped to the post by Always On My Mind by the Pet Shop Boys. I remember once watching an interview with the late Kirsty MacColl who was really gutted about that fact.
