I have so far bought two blu-rays, the first being the recent Star Trek movie, which was very good (especially in terms of its menu navigation, loved the little popups and stuff) but given the film's stylistic use of lens flare it was often hard to see the quality.

Hairspray however (bought to compare with my DVD) looks and sounds INCREDIBLE. Having only experienced the joys of BBC/C4/MTV HD on virgin I was completely blown away by the quality my TV was actually capable of. Very pleased I went for blu-ray in the end. Thank you all.
Blu-Ray is fantastic, and I'm glad you chose it. Okay, Blu-Ray is on average more expensive (A new DVD being £15 maybe, and Blu-Ray being £20), but it looks and sounds better, and the interactive capabilities are much better.

I today have purchased Image. Bizarrely I've not actually got any plans to buy Blu-Ray discs, but what it does an excellent job of is streaming stuff from the computer over the network, and also iPlayer HD and quite frankly it is fab. I can now dispose of Virgin Media, as I like to do approximately every 24 months.

Really tempted to get a Blu-Ray now, just to see how much better it is compared to Virgin HD.

Quite a lot better, I'm told - but should I spend the money just to find out? Hmmm.

The only difference I see with HD is that it's much clearer and crisper than SD resolution which is what it should be anyway, but I've never seen it jump out at me or think that it was incredible. Same for 3D in the cinemas. I only noticed one part that truly looked like it was really in 3D - a trailer.

Same with Blu-ray, I can see it's much clearer and better quality, but it doesn't "jump out at me".
