Rather basic help with Premiere Pro

I've just made the transition from Vegas to Premiere Pro due to instability and general stubborness. Everything is fine, except for one basic thing that I cannot work out and no results from Google are helping me with, and that is moving or adding a new clip to a timeline between two others, and have them shift instead of the new clip overlapping the other one - 'rippling,' I believe it is called.

Whereas Vegas had a button at the top to turn off the ripple feature, I cannot for the life of me work out how to do this in Premiere Pro. Could somebody help me out, please?

Thanks :)

Hold control when you drag the clip

I've just tried it; if I let go of the mouse button first, the clip doesn't move, and if I let go of Ctrl first, it either still overlaps, or it removes the other clips next to it.

Not sure why it's not working, its called an 'insert edit'. Just tried it on CS5 and it worked fine.

I can only assume the controls would be the same for CS4?

You're using the right tool, right?

The circled tools allow for "rolling" and "ripple" edits.

Make sure you're not just using the pointer icon and try selecting one or the other of the ones circled.
