Hello,
Today. I seek to find what the average Metropol user has as their phone, and why they chose it. Some of you, of course, are absorbed by HTC handsets,
and other's no doubt own iPhones. So, what brand is it, and why? And why not have the winner as the Unofficial phone of Metropol.
The Average Metropol user's phone
My phones have been:
1999 - 2000 : Phillips C12 in black on U - gave this one to my brother
2000 - 2001 : Nokia 5110 on U / O2 - gave this one to my dad
2002 - 2003 : Nokia 3310 on O2 - this one broke
2004 : Nokia 3510 on O2 - this one also just stopped working one day
2004 - 2005 : Nokia 2610 on O2 - lost in a taxi
2005 - 2008 : Nokia 6230 on O2 (second hand)
2008 - present : Nokia 6300 on O2
Considering an E71 for my birthday in December.
I am vehemently anti-contract, all of my phones have been PAYG. I don't call much, I usually text and browse. Out of my £10 - minimum monthly topup, I get a free txt allocation (about 250 I think, more than enough) and £7.50 bolt-on for unlimited WAP browsing. I realise if I get an E71 I may have to change my bolt-ons.

Then an NEC 9A, then an NEC P3, then a Nokia 7110, now a Nokia 6300.
Just five phones from May 1985 to August 2010.
Oh, and all on Vodafone. Is there another network?

Of my family, myself and my father are on 02, my mother and grandfather are on Orange, and my aunt is on Vodafone. When we go on holiday to Center Parcs at Longleat only myself and my father have full signal all over the parc all the time; robust enough for EDGE connection.Nick Harvey wrote:Oh, and all on Vodafone. On two of the three occasions that I had a temporary phone whist in between 'main' ones, I ended up with what even then were dated NEC handsets - and despite all the negative press I didn't find them half bad. The little 338 in particular impressed me a lot, in many ways it was more dependable than all three of the handsets which have replaced it.

September 2003-December 2004: Nokia 3410 (on O2)
December 2004-December 2006: Nokia 6610i (on O2)

I was very happy with the 3410, but gave it to my grandfather as a Christmas present in return for the 6610i in 2004. The 6610i was always a little hopeless - by the end I had to replace it, as the screen was very poor (basically unreadable) and I also had issue with the casing (had to replace several cracked outer screens). I liked the Ice very much, but grew frustrated with its lack of internet abilities, so moved over to a BT contract (previously all my phones were Pay and Go) for a phone with more internet ability. I'm now considering whether to upgrade with BT to an HTC Hero.

I dislike Mobile Telephones and always use BT Landline or Telephone Boxes. I do however have a LG Chocolate just in case since December 2006.

i can't remember every single phone i've had.
my favourite is my old trusty samsung e710. what was great about this phone is that it had an 4 colour o-led display on the outer shell which was on all the time, so even in the middle of the night you could see the time without pressing a button.
my current phone is a blackberry storm, the built in browser is a bit ropey, but with opera mini it's at least as fast as the iphone 3g in rendering pages.
the reason i went for the blackberry is that it did pretty much everything i wanted... i wanted an iphone at the time, but when my contract came up for renewal the iphone was o2 exclusive and the minutes/messages deals weren't all that competitive... i just got more with vodafone.
i'll be able to renew my phone around xmas time.. not sure what i'll get this time. the iphone 4 doesn't really do anything for me. yes, i know the screen is great, but still.
