This is something I've often wondered about other people... why did you join TVF/Metropol in the first place? Was there a single reason or was it for just general discussion of TV Pres?
I joined TVF in... think it was March 2003 (but will check) because I wanted more info on GMTV (pronounced GuMTuV) and at the time I wanted to be a TV presenter (which will now never happen!). I still post largely for the entertainment value of winding some of the people over there up.
I joined metropol about a year afterwards and really liked the more laid back yet bitchy attitude! I can remember a long period of desperately trying to fit in with the forum cliques, but I failed miserably and became a forum pariah. So I just stopped posting and grew up a few years to avoid turning into a fat virgin or a racist local radio presenter, and here I am! And aw, I love you guys (and girls) so much.
Over to you... why and when did you join TV/MP?
Why and when did you join?

I saw a message on TV Home's website (while I was browsing idents at work one day), which said he would be opening a forum the next day. I had never signed up to one before so threw my details in. I went with my real name - there were only three members ahead of me, and it hadn't occurred to me to come up with a moniker.
Came to metro the day it opened I think, and Martin asked me to mod sometime thereafter.
At the time I signed up to TVF I spoke to a colleague who told me he had been on earlier incarnations of message boards for about 5 years. I thought that was an extraordinary length of time to be twittering on the net to people - never really expected I would still be doing it after - what is it now - 8 years?

That old chestnut the news 24 countdown for me I'm afraid
Always thought it was a catchy little number and found it on TV Home, signed up for the forum with a word that I'd came up with recently. Signed for for Metro on the first day too, mainly to stop anyone else nabbing my name.
I've probably stuck around TVF simply because its small, but not too small and lame (merry media), but not too big and vile (DS). The general attitude of the older members and the fun I had in the chatroom days definitely added to my love of this place.
As for my modship, that's still a purely technical issue, but I still have broadly the same beliefs as gav, better to settle issues on the forum rather than hiding behind RTPs and banning such discussion and only ever act when necessary. I've certainly not calmed down in any way just because I can in theory ban everyone, and that's another thing I like. Beth Hart and the losers over there expect god like adoration, there's no such thing here

I joined TVF in the middle of 2001. I was 16 and just about to start college. I was known as "savagegardenkid" back then. I joined Metropol about a week after it opened (I would have joined earlier, but I had the flu).
It's something I've deeply regretted to this day.Nini wrote:Hah.rfrancis51284 wrote:I was known as "savagegardenkid" back then.

I can't really remember what brought me to TVF the first time round - was The TV Room going in early 2003? - because I suspect that site was my first exposure to the idea that more than one person in the world was interested in the things that weren't programmes, and I believe I joined TVF around April 03 after being a little bewildered at the whole corner of the interwebs dedicated to the subject. In case you never made the connection, I'm Barney Boo at the other place. I decided to be equally forgettable under two different names.
I joined here when it first started, then was relatively quickly banned after discovering that inserting enough smileys into a post would crash everyone's browser. That was particularly awesome of me.
Back to TVF though, and though I trawl around it about as much as I ever used to, I have run out of anything interesting to say or anything to show, so the calibre of my posts has crumbled to lamely sniping at users with regional news programmes for names a couple of times a week.

Snort. Forgot my Metropol bit so lesse, stayed at TVF because no other forum (even the short-lived TV Ark Forum, big pile of wank that was) would home me. Stayed at Metropol because no other forum would home me... eventually. Signed up as a "Don't take my name you bitch, I had it first!" protection on my name and my reputation on the day it opened, had it removed as I never used it. Was actually pestered in a little way by Gav to come along during his big membership drive in November last year and here I am now, less than a year in and still as sarky as ever.Sput wrote:I want to stand with you on a mountain.rfrancis51284 wrote:It's something I've deeply regretted to this day.

I've been visiting TV Forum since late 2003 or early 2004. I only visited because I enjoyed reading the arguments, but I used it as a news source as well sometimes, and for general info about idents. I joined because I felt the urge to say something for the first time in January last year, but I don't post that much. I joined metro so that I could have an excuse to look at Grindon's avatar all day.
Ronnie is victorious, vivacious in victory like a venomous dog. Vile Republicans cease living while the religious retort with rueful rhetoric. These rank thugs resort to violence and swear revenge.
But Ronnie can punch through steel so they lose anyway.
