Commencing with the upgrade to Metropol 7.1 (at some point this week)...

1. Avatars must be in 16:9 ratio and have a width of 150px
For ease of use the avatar uploader will be set to accept 84 and 85 as acceptable heights, but only 150 as a width.
2. Avatars cannot be shatliffed into 16:9
They must (preferably) be recropped from the original source image. There will be no substandard upscaling either (ronnie)
3. Avatars must be a clear photo of your face and nobody elses (david) and you must be close enough to the camera and well lit enough to be visible (stuart)
4. er....
5. that's it

There'll be a two day grace period for those with analogue avatars to upgrade, after which all analogue avatars will be removed.

Mandatory enforcement? Rendered in Ascii but using 1s and 0s only?

PNG only! No...

Clear images with rules like those you get with passport applications?

Our avatars have to be in HD? Like Chair's?
Ronnie is victorious, vivacious in victory like a venomous dog. Vile Republicans cease living while the religious retort with rueful rhetoric. These rank thugs resort to violence and swear revenge.

But Ronnie can punch through steel so they lose anyway.

Will they all be rearranged so they're 3px to to the left, to free up the old space taken up by analogue avatars?

We need a new plug-in to see them in future? Oh, all avatars are going to be crushed down into five separate images, all of which are nowhere near big enough to look like anything more than a mishmash of pixels.

He's got a really sexy voice you know. I'd be a bit disappointed if he turned out to be a fugly minger.

I read that and my eyes dimmed just that little bit.

And my heart dimmed a little also... ah well. *scrawls more into Nini's big blackmail book*

Is it a ban on VGA resolution webcam pics making the place look untidy?
