I mean what the fuck is the point of it? It's so boring and just is another little button to zap my time away.
So off it goes. tsk at it.
I'm considering doing the same with myspace and bebo. Haven't decided yet.
I've just deactivated my facebook, and I'm proud
tsk. no.
No i'm just bored of the thing. Aside from gawking at photos I don't really use them, I get annoyed at invites for apps, and I certainly don't use it for communicating with people, that's what I'm paying Orange £25 a month to do.
I really cannot see any true purpose to the site, and begrudge the idea of plodding around on it, wasting my time purely to make some man in LA even richer.
It just doesn't engage me in any way. Myspace did as you got to design skins but on facebook there is nothing. Plus nobody uses myspace anymore, not least because its cumbersome, useless and crashes all the time.
Plus I saw that iPhone advert that starts with the phrase "if you love facebook so much" and shows how wonderful it is to be able to access drivvel on the move, and thought "what a complete knobened would be that obsessive" and then realised I was half way there. It has to go.

ive never understood myspace, where as facebook does have some value. the people you add to facebook are, or should be, *actual friends*, not people who've stumbled accross your profile and thought you look nice. so by definition of them being friends it indicates a certain level of interest in them and their lives. when someone you know is tagged in a photo or posts something interesting its actually quite a passive way of keeping up with people you know. a good half way house between msn/email/phoning.
I have resolutely refused to use Facebook and Myspace - and now my friends don't talk to me.
In all seriousness, I think my friends have given up on text messages now - they communicate with one another on Facebook. Online social networking has a very contagious aspect to it, because once one person gets sucked in, their whole friendship group gets sucked in as well. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, if people are happy doing it, but it's not something I have a desire to be a part of.

It's very distracting and annoying at times, but it is useful for organising stuff between a lot of people (which is probably the main thing I use it for) - events, dates, times, photos and so on. Myspace is just plain annoying, especially with girls-of-a-certain-age who will post a bulletin about things at the drop of a hat.
More than two of those sites and I think I would lose it completely.

Is it possible to not only deactivate your account on Facebook, but also leave so they don't hold your information any more?
From their point of view, I'm sure it's great that most people don't realise that deactivation is just that - not deleting all the information you gave them, but (unless I've missed it) surely there must be a "delete my information" button.
That said, it was quite handy when Mrs Scrooge decided to leave, asked me to delete her account and then changed her mind just after I did it!

I barely use facebook or myspaz at all now, although just this morning someone asked me if I'm on it. I feel I couldn't not have a profile but I'm certainly not a slave to it.
I'm just a slave to this place.

I am something of a facebook tart, I have several accounts for various things but all of them are set to the most limited profile settings available so nobody can actually post on *my* page. I wouldn't dream of deactivating mine though, if I did how would I snoop through others' profiles and photos!
People who actively use facebook clearly have nothing better to do in their lives. I mean I object to all this social 'networking', facebook users tend to be the annoying OMG SIX DEGREES members of society, there is even a bloody app for it.
Hyma hits it on the head when saying the site has no pupose. I mean metropol dosnt have a "purpose", but it's the personalities and the fact that everyone here is ever so slightly OCD about things that distinguishes it and make it feel special etc... facebook has NO link between its members, it is just a glorified way to e-mail and it's not even private!

i did used to like facebook, but most peoples profiles even on a fast broadband connection take an age to appear because they are full of crappy applications. it has actually pretty much got to the point that it's worse than myspace with all the stupid things going on in every profile you visit. it hasn't quite got the point that you can have music playing (well not on any of the people in my friend list) but i'm sure it won't be long and when it happens i think i'll deactivate too.
from having it open most evenings in a separate tab i probably check it weekly. i can't remember the last time i logged into myspace, last year sometime probably.

Why would you want to have more than one account, cdd? Do you suffer from some form of multiple personality disorder, or do you just lead a very compartmentalised and secretive life?cdd wrote:I am something of a facebook tart, I have several accounts for various things but all of them are set to the most limited profile settings available so nobody can actually post on *my* page. I'm certainly not a facebook addict. It was useful for getting in contact with people I'd lost touch with as I've moved around the country with work. But once I'd said hello and gawped at their latest pictures, it doesn't serve much purpose.
I very rarely go on MySpace, and will probably delete that one.
