Alright, I'm bored. I decided I'd have a look at this bastion of informed opinion and then couldn't help but chip in...

I'm pt64, this is fun.
I figured I'd turn it into academic immigration, the two areas where ignorance is likely to be highest. So far the gem has been:
Hey so true we need more immigrants that are more qualified
Current demand is for
O'level in bullshite
BTEC in begging
NVQ in breaking and entering
A'level in Grievious Bodily Harm
First Degree in pimping, people smuggling and enslavement
Post Grad Qualification in bringing terrorist murder, mayhem and destruction to our streets
Knight knight
Right wing bigotry you say?Sput wrote:Alright, I'm bored. I decided I'd have a look at this bastion of informed opinion and then couldn't help but chip in...

Paging Ronald Rowlands...
I like immigration. Most of the people that emigrate to Britain are friendly, polite and charming. It's the tunnel-vision Little Englanders and lazy, ignorant and poorly educated Sun readers (C2DE demographic) that don't.
I've yet to meet an immigrant to this country who has been disrespectful, violent, thieving or generally unsavoury. Contrary to what the gutter press portrays.
However, I do have to disagree about the increasing amount of immigrants who only come to this country with no intention to work or even learn English. These are in the minority when it comes to immigrants, but nevertheless I don't think they should be allowed through the gates at Dover or Heathrow.
The richest person in the UK is an immigrant.
The best singer in the world, ever, was an immigrant (Freddie Mercury)
Even the current Royal family are immigrants from Germany.
In fact, if you go back far enough 99.9% of the people that live in the UK today are descended from immigrants (Vikings, Romans, Dutch etc.)

Haha, I found it ironic that a man with a picture of Al Murray as his avatar was defending immigrants.
If it's worth anything to this discussion however, I will say that my Dad recently married a filipino girl in Cyprus, who he'd been seeing for 3 years. She moved down to the UK with us in October and found work within 3 weeks of her arriving, and she now has 2 jobs. That's the reason I tend to ignore the vast majority of trumpery moonshine that they write in the tabloids.
They either say "oh these bastards coming here and scrounging" or "these bastards coming here and taking our jobs because they take less money." Doesn't the minimum wage apply to immigrants or something? And why my pager is bleeping I have no idea...

Ronnie is victorious, vivacious in victory like a venomous dog. Vile Republicans cease living while the religious retort with rueful rhetoric. These rank thugs resort to violence and swear revenge.
But Ronnie can punch through steel so they lose anyway.

If they've gone through the proper channels to gain immigration then i have no problem with them coming in through the port of Dover or Channel Tunnel. Many of them don't though they sneak into haulage lorries, cling onto the trains or just walk through the tunnel at their risk. I have many tear jerking stories i could tell you. I almost ran one illegal over late one evening on the A20. My issue here is with France. They have scanners to check vehicles but they won't use them because it infringes the immigrants rights to scan the lorries without their consent, against some law or something. It's a joke. I can just see it now, the French immigration workers knocking on the lorries rear doors shouting " If anyone is in there do you mind if we scan the lorry?"Jamez wrote: I don't think they should be allowed through the gates at Dover
