A world away

For a few years ive often wondered why people on the internet forums think they are untouchable, especially if they have been a member to a certain forum for a long time.

Some, not all look down their noses on people, can be rude and very bitchy if someone does not agree with them - why is that? The way that some people have spoken to me i would have kicked them in the balls in "real life".

So my main question is, as we are a world away do any of you deliberatly look down on people on the internet and textually abuse people because you know you can get away with is? ( i have by the way)

I have no hesitation in coming down heavily on other forum members of any web forum of which I am a member if I feel that my heavy-handed input is appropriate. It doesn't matter if I just post or I mod, if I feel I need to get heavy with somebody, I will. Okay, it may well be I'll get pulled up for it later but what the heck. It also doesn't matter to me if my "target" is a new member or the owner of the forum - an owner can be as thick as the new kid sometimes.

I do agree though that some people on-line act in such a fashion that if it were happening in off-line and in person, they'd have sore balls and lots of bruises to show for it. Yet they can get away with it online because they'll have aliases to hide behind and they can make new ones and generally carry on. Therefore you may be talking to "Zulk" who pissed you off earlier under the alias of "Rabbit", for example.

Some of what you may consider pompous or rude can be misunderstood a lot of the time. Its text and this is the internet, things don't always come across the way they were intended.

If you don't take bitching with a pinch of salt, it will be so easy to fall into the trap of obsessing over what someone online may be thinking of you. Why should you care, they've not earned your trust or friendship, so you're not really losing anything. If you can't give as good as you get, ignore it. But its a lot harder when someone you've considered a friend for a long time is bitching about you.

That's hard to imagine, I had you down as being far too nice and fluffy to kick anyone in the balls! ;)

A downside of the internet is that it makes you realise how many people in the world are actually morons.

A computer screen is like alcohol - it removes people's inhibitions. And as people tend to reveal their true colours when they're drunk, so some people seem to think that hiding behind their computer gives them the right to be vile.

I don't get angry that much, i just feel that the way ive been spoken to in the past is terrible. I also noticed a lot of people on TVF don't like being told that their actions are hideous.

Whenever ive had a disagreement with someone on the net, i always PM them to try and clarify what went wrong - thats only been successful with three people so far.

I doubt it, everyone knows to take some of your comments with a pinch of salt - they are usually a demonstration of your "dry" sense of humour (I hope) .
