News Ticker - feedback + ideas

i was browsing tvf and was impressed by barney boo's news break screensaver. however, i would to create a ticker which sits in the taskbar or somewhere else entrely different but not when the screen saver is on (as this has already been implemented)



now clearly this is a work in progress, but conceptually from a user point of view would a ticker in the taskbar be a good place to put it or would be distracting or in some other way infeasible?

i would like such a ticker at work, something unobtrusive but programming the windows shell like this takes a lot of messing around and is painful to debug so i would like to make this available to other people, so really, i'm asking for your feedback and whether you'd use such a shell extension.

I have (on my Laptop) the programmable 'Official Ticker' Here - although it's not as neat as your proposal I find it adequate for my purposes.
