How handy is this going to be eh. I must get one. Found out about it after watching that Something for the weekend. Apparently there is one that converts your vinyl records into mp3 files too.

Hey, I've already got one of those, just to my right, as I write.

It's called a "gram", with an RIAA pre-amp to convert the pick-up signal to correctly shaped line level.

The signal then goes via a selector switch into my sound card and I record mp3s of all my old 78s and 45s.

Magic stuff!

Yes, probably sell the machine for five pence, but some of your old vinyl for a fortune.

Getting to be collector's items now.

What's all this modern day obsession with putting stuff to inferior MP3?

IMO nothing beats whole act of getting the record out of its sleeve and cueing it up on the deck and giving it a good listen through a good set of speakers, versus listening to a yukky legal download on a tinny pair of earphones on your iPod.

God, aren't I getting old.

A what? Using the words ' gram' and 'magic stuff' in one post got me calling my dealer. What are these newfangled sound cards you speak of? Are they easy to use? and cheaper than what my dealer had to offer! ;) Tell me more!

I have boxes and boxes of vimyl and shedloads of cassettes it will keep me busy for a long long time. So by the time i'd finished with a plusdeck cassette converter it will probably become an antique.
