This thread on TVF has made me curious, but it looks suspicious.

Can anyone tell me whether it's bona fide or not?

i just installed it in the safety and security of my own vm and yes, it seems to work. it doesn't appear to install any spyware (my homepage wasn't changed in ie, and nothing appeared to be installed into the toolbar etc)

is what animal planet was showing at the time i took the grab. was fairly good quality and no breakups even though i was running it via virtual pc.

i can run a msi snapshot on the installation if you want, this is what we use to make installs for windows software which we can push out when the pc is logged in or restarted but it has the excellent side effect of being able to see *exactly* what files a software install adds/changes etc.

i'd be happy to do that if you want to make sure it isn't going to break your computer before you install it

No, I know what it *is*, but I can't tell from reading it whether there is a malicious element or not.

In any event, it is truly one of the best things I've downloaded in a long time. I've enjoyed late nights watching a host of American television nonsense, as well as some real gems.

basically, all it does to your system is:

installs the video codecs

installs context menu items

adds a firewall exception

registers a few activex components (it appears they are for network communication and video display).

in summary - there doesn't seem to be anything abnormal or nasty included in this software

How do you get this list?

i used Winstall LE download from http://www.ondemandsoftware.com/PurchaseLE.asp

it's main purpose is to repackage applications for deployment in a windows active directory group policy environment - the way it does this is that it takes a before and after snapshot of your pc and makes an msi containing the changes.

it has the interesting side effect of being able to see exactly what an application changes on your system.

it's also useful to see how 'trial' applications alter your pc and how you can find a way to make them last forever.
