Back to my usual computer related topics, I am trying to reformat my hard drive, although the drive letters are getting muddled up. Before I carry on, these are my drives:
A: Floppy Drive
C: Hard Drive*
D: DVD Drive
E: DVD Drive
F: Hard Drive*
* I use Drive C as a back up hard drive. In other words, Drive C is to keep personal files on, like music and videos. Drive F is the drive Windows is installed on.
I am trying to use the recovery console to format the drive, however the command line appears as "C:\Windows>" (or something like that) and Drive C is the hard drive I do not want to format.
Speaking to my cousin, he says that Windows changes the drive letters when they want to. How can I be sure that I am about for format the right drive?
Many thanks.
Which Drive?

in the recovery console you can use many standard commands like dir.
use dir to check the directory structure on the drive and ensure you're formatting the correct drive.
so, type cd \
dir
and see if it's your windows drive or your data drive.
if you are formatting and reinstalling on a partitioned drive, please, please make sure you back up all your data. i've had to break the news to people in tears when they've got this thing wrong. it's easy to do.
