Yes, it really is true -- mice do sing, but at frequencies higher than those audible to humans.

Timothy E. Holy and Zhongsheng Guo at the School of Medicine of Washington University in St. Louis, MO have discovered that male mice emit ultrasonic songs to attract the attention of female mice.
