This is much the same as MrTomServo's service, except:

> no limitation on type of file you can upload
> 8mb file size limit
> no picture size limit

To keep a file on the server, prefix it 'KEEP-' eg: 'KEEP-filename'.

Please feel free to use this service as you wish - but please don't do anything with it that will get me into trouble with my isp.

that's it! enjoy!

I can't upload video files to the server. It tells me "nothing was uploaded" after a lengthy upload wait.

Little help, Dr Lobster?

Gavin, what is the approximate size and extension of the file?

I'll try to reproduce what is happening and sort the problem.

Thanks. Admittedly it was a large file. An 8MB wmv file to start with, but I recompressed it with Real Producer to around 4.5MB. No joy with either.

The file was (and it seems a little pointless now) a clip from Broken News on the BBC.

I've set up some personal webspace and have hosted it here if you want to attempt it:

Let me know how you get on :)

Gavin, I have tried a few variations of the filename and I can't get it to work. I'm going to try it with a couple of different browsers later on and I'll let you know what happens!

I have determined that the problem appears to lie with the ISP that domain is hosted with.

It should be possible to upload much bigger files than this - internet explorer supports massive uploads. i have read that the limitation might be because of the way perl manages the upload and the size of the file you upload might be directly related to the total amount of memory any given script process might consume on the sever. i tried several browsers at home and at work with the same results - this certainly suggests that the problem isn't your end.

i am looking at ways to make the upload service better - and that particular domain is up for renewal in a few weeks so i might have a look around for a different host and see if that makes things better.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help.
