Polling cards (or whatever they're called)

Having recently moved albeit within the same city, my polling card for the general election appears to have astray in the post. My neighbour downstairs has hers but i don't have mine. I have lived in the same house before and definately had one then. Whose reponsibility is it? I am on the electroral role, but have moved so how do I go about getting a new card and in time for May 5th? Is it the letting agents or my responsibility? Do I just turn up to the polling station with a bit of card with my name on it? ;)

Although they help you can get in without one, just say you didnt get it and have some proof of ID and you can tick your box.

You don't need a poll card in order to vote. So long as you know where the polling station is for your polling district, just turn up and give your details and they will find you on the register.

If you're unsure, check with your council (they are responsible for organising the polling stations etc) - http://www.york.gov.uk/elections/ has the phone numbers.

And you don't need tp show your card to those nosey busybodies from the parties who lurk outside the polling station.

Tell them to mind their own business

The people outside the polling station usually only want to know who you are and where you live - they are unlikely to want to know your voting intention.

Certainly at the tory campaigns, the information gathered is taken back to the campaign HQ on an hourly basis and compared against the 'pledge database'.

This way, they can identify tory supporters who have not yet voted and prompts them to send the boys round to persuade you to do so.

We got ours posted today, I'm glad they also sent mine, as this will be the first time that I will be voting. Also in the same lot of Post was a whole leaflet for the Conservative MP in Warrington South.

If you are not on the on the register for the address you have moved to you will not get a card sent to that address.
You can still vote however if you are registered elsewhere but you would need to make sure you went to the correct polling station. Alternatively, you could register for a postal vote but you'll need to be quick - applications for these close on Tuesday.
