Google Maps: UK

Google have finally launched the UK version of Google maps, I've been playing around with it for a while, it's remarkably accurate and lists all road names very clearly. I wonder if they'll stat doing directions now, they do a to and from bussinesses.

although the moving maps round bit if better than mutlimap I do miss the overlays of the ariel photos from multimap

in a totally unrelated thing related to me trying to find TV Centre on the map (it lacks an outline unlike multimap, shame) I found this little page

Yes, you can tell it's currently only in "beta".

If I put in my postcode, it says I live in Salisbury. Only twenty-nine miles adrift.

The problem with Google stuff is it stays in beta for years. Google News is still in beta, gmail is still in beta and the new version of groups is still in beta despite all three seeming to work fine

Oddly if I put in my postcode it can stick a pin precisely where I live, but there is no detail below it at all.

Belfast is the only part of NI which is properly mapped. The rest of the province only shows a few A roads.

It gets where I live in the lovely old town of Soham right except it makes Sand Street a bit too big as my house is at the start of the High Street.

I asked it how to get from my house to my work okay and it gave me directions. Now if I could just fathom out how to make the car jump 30ft in the air and land on a bridge and take a sharp left I could get there...
