Dunno about anyone else but I'm getting tired of seeing the 'Forum Too Busy' slogan on TVF.
Might it not be a sensible suggestion to move one of the forums like the Newsroom across here?
Despite the fact we're far busier than we were just a few weeks ago over here, I'm sure we'd be able to cope with the extra traffic.
Forum shiftaround?

i don't know asa, but from the tone of his announcements, i think he's far too precious to let his control slip away - he likes to have his winky firmly on the 'ban' button...
although, i agree, it would make sense.
that way, it would be possible for users to discuss things which are happening in the news, which for some unknown reason, he only allows in the newsroom forum when he feels like it.

I agree with the lobster, damn fine idea, but you wouldn't get it past 'im indoors.
Part of the overload at TVF is all the specific modifications taking up processor. Things like that stupid thing at the top of the main forum that keeps changing between different thread names for the news forum.
The huge increase in "busy" messages started the same day as that thing was introduced.

there is one thing i don't understand about the latest 'forum toy' which asa introduced - there have been problems with the colour of text (try doing a find all posts by user) for years, even before the last crash, but instead of fixing these issues, (which i expect are boring and less 'exciting' than the newsroom ticker) he plays around with things which are essentially useless, and if anybody dares point this lack of direction, all you get out of him is 'if you don't like it, post elsewhere'.Nick Harvey wrote:I agree with the lobster, damn fine idea, but you wouldn't get it past 'im indoors.

i don't know what it is about tvf, but it seems to be a magnet for cripples, obsessives, neurotic social outcasts.cdd wrote:A clearout of users on TVF would also solve the problem!
i visit a fair few forums everyday, and granted, every forum has it's idiot, and every large forum have their 'clans', but tvf is almost unqiue in the sheer number of weirdos it attacts.
and there are so many anal people there too - like the clown whatever it's called who throws a fit everytime somebody posts some clean library music.
i think a good few people on that board need to have a really good think about the direction of their lives, because constant rambling about look north news readers, natasha kaplinsky and the shift patterns of the itv news channel are really the signs of an unhealthy mind.

I say TVF should just move to a better host, or better, it's own dedicated server (if it already isn't on one).

Indeed, see the third post down in this thread. I was being polite, but I'm sure you'll get the background meaning.Dr Lobster* wrote:there is one thing i don't understand about the latest 'forum toy' which asa introduced - there have been problems with the colour of text (try doing a find all posts by user) for years, even before the last crash, but instead of fixing these issues, (which i expect are boring and less 'exciting' than the newsroom ticker) he plays around with things which are essentially useless, and if anybody dares point this lack of direction, all you get out of him is 'if you don't like it, post elsewhere'.
(Oh, and sorry to be so tardy in replying, but the direction of my life took me out for the evening for dinner and a game of mah jong.)
Yup! Although, you do feel sorry for some of them - they must have tiny little lifes..Dr Lobster* wrote: i think a good few people on that board need to have a really good think about the direction of their lives, because constant rambling about look north news readers, natasha kaplinsky and the shift patterns of the itv news channel are really the signs of an unhealthy mind.
