Despite the fact I am non-religious, I do come from an Irish Catholic family by origin.

Although I am constantly stupified that someone can base their beliefs on something historically disputed and scientifically unproven, I have seen how Catholicism has helped my extended family in times of trouble and grief.

I'll open this thread when he does finally pop his clogs for genuine condolences. I do not intend to shut the slightly more flippant thread started by JM when this happens, by the way.

For what it's worth, I think the Pope is an intellectually and morally honest man to himself, and I admire the dignifed and positive way he has faced his final days and hours.

Can't we have this thread "un-stuck"?

If people REALLY want to moan and wail, then it'll stay at the top on its own.

Otherwise it can sink without trace as, I suspect, most people would much prefer.

May I be the first to point out the link between roses and pricks.

When he's in heaven, I hope he has chance to apologise to all the Africans he told not to use condoms, who died from AIDS.

It's one of the wonderful things about the Lounge that you lot will just say what you want to say.

It's something as a member and a mod I have tried to preserve.

The popular voice of the forum does not want to make this thread into a condolence one, so I'll respect that and unsticky it.

Carry on, fellas.

The Pope was a man dressed all in white,
He lived in a Palace surrounded by shite.

He told us all to repent our sins,
By stabbing condoms with lots of pins.

When he got old, he started to shake,
Some thought he was prentending, and called him a fake.

But now Pope JP is dead,
The famous Pope who died in his bed.

He took ages to die,
Sending the geeks mental on Digital Spy.

He said the hand of God touched his soul,
But God didn't realise it was in his botty hole.

Goodbye Pope, a good man indeed,
I'm bored of this poem now,
I'm gonna smoke some weed...
