hello everyone,
Does anyone know what beneficial results might be found (if any) by changing the settings in LNB SETUP under INSTALLER SETUP?
I don't understand what those functions mean, so if there are useful 'non default' settings then please explain why I might change them and what to.
Thanks a lot.
Advanced Sky digibox settings
ok thanks.
I think my underlying hope was that I can do something to stop what appears to be an increasing problem with picture breakup. I'm using a Panasonic box where I have already heard about a tuner bug when using RGB, but I am also having trouble in PAL.
My dish is fixed at a 'standard' house height and I _think_ unobstructed, but quite some distance from the digibox; say, a cable run of up to twice the 'normal' for a standard house where the dish would be on the roof and the box in the downstairs lounge. My signal strength and quality seem to hover around the middle of the display or just below.
Is there a way or benefit by trying to boost the signal at the digibox end? If so, please suggest a certain product.
thanks again.

I doubt that the cable run is a problem unless it's VERY long - mine runs from the back of the house, over the roof and right back down the front.
What's the problem you're having? I don't understand what you mean by an "RGB tuner bug" - the Panasonic boxes are generally considered the best ones. The tuner and the bit of the box that creates the picture are entirely different. Does the breakup only happen in bad weather? Where are you, and what size is your dish? Does the breakup only happen on some channels?
It's possible your LNB needs replaced, or the dish needs realigned. Best to get someone who knows what they're doing to realign the dish but if the LNB needs replaced you can do it yourself - parts will cost you less than £30 and it's 10 minute job. Have a look at the LNB and check it looks ok - I was getting breakup and discovered it had split open in the heat during the summer and then when winter came round water got in.

hello again,
Re the Panasonic thing; if you have 5 minutes to spare have a look at this thread where I was discussing it some time ago:
http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/sho ... p?t=134948
I've since moved and my current dish has been set up since about September. Yes, the picture breakup appears to be weather related, but I wouldn't say the local weather is always that bad when the problem haapens. It is variable on apparently random channels and I'm vaguely wondering if it may be related to how long the box has been active on any given occasion.
I'm in Coventry (west midlands) and the minidish is the 'standard' size one.
As for the LNB and dish alignment; I can't really see from the ground but all _appears_ to be ok.

I've never heard of the RGB/PAL problem described in that thread... I really don't see how a digibox outputting RGB will draw more power than in composite, but that's irrelevant anyway as you're still having problems.
If you are only having the problems in poor weather, then it's nothing to do with the above. It has to be a misaligned dish; a faulty LNB or a poor signal. That *could* be caused by a long cable run but to be honest it's unlikely. Unless of course it's rubbish quality cable! You shouldn't have any problem at less than 70m. You say a "standard" minidish - they come in two sizes, 45cm and 60cm. Bigger the better...
I think your best bet it to find a good independent satellite dealer in your area. Make sure they are CAI registered (Confederation of Aerial Industries). You can find one here. They should be able to come out and have a look at the installation for you.
Brymar are a good company for satellite spare bits.

Thanks again,
I'll have to make an effort to note if weather is related at all; I _think_ it is.
I'm going to contact MCES in Manchester (http://www.mces.co.uk) who were mentioned in that thread. Presumably they're similar to the other company you've mentioned.
I'll run past them the problems I've had and have both with RGB and PAL, and get them to tell me if they know of a fixable problem.
If so, I'll try that. If not, I'll dig out a local installer to check the dish and LNB. Seems reasonable?
Unfortunately I can't try my box first on someone else's dish because I'm not on speaking terms with anyone else who has Sky installed. I would presumably need to monitor that for hours anyway to reach any meaningful conclusion.

I think the scart pin 16 requires a voltage for RGB to work from the digibox.marksi wrote:I've never heard of the RGB/PAL problem described in that thread... Yes, but I'd be surprised if such a small extra voltage load could tip it over the edge of stability.edward wrote:I think the scart pin 16 requires a voltage for RGB to work from the digibox.marksi wrote:I've never heard of the RGB/PAL problem described in that thread...
