Not so far from my house (literally a stones through a way) we have a small amount of shops.
A booze shop with wall to wall drink. A bookies. An Indian Takeaway. A Blockbuster. A Costcutter. Another Costcutter kinda place but not called or owned by Costcutter. A Chip Shop. A Newsagents. A Chemist and a few others including a butcher and Pub.
On taking my second trip to these shops it dawned on me. The booze store and 2nd costcutter like shop is owned by the same Pakistani/Indian family. They own quite a number of shops like this in my area and neighbouring towns. The indian takeaway I feel are also related to this family. Recently the Chip shop was taken over... by a Pakistani/Indian family and it's become more of a success than before introducing Pizza takeaway and things.
Just the other week the actual "Costcutter" store was taken over by a Pakistani/Indian family which I am convinced is owned by the same family as the Chip Shop as the same woman I've seen in both behind the counters.
I say Pakistani/Indian because I'm not quite sure which is where in each one.
It really intrigues me as to how their success came about. I'm not racist and nor is this a dig at them. They're doing an amazing job and the entire chain of shops in this street is owned by them. When you think of (and excuse the phrasing) the local "Paki store" you imagine some smelly crammed shop with some old camper type delivery van parked outside. However in this street they have fancy brand spanking new BMW's & Mercedes.
I really want to congratulate these people with their success as it's truly remarkable. Is it just me or do they have a better business sense than the UK business people?
I really am overcome on this subject as to how much of a success these places have become.
Some of what I've said might sound racist but it's not intended to be so apologies to anyone of these cultures who are reading this.
Pakistani/Indian Business Owners (Not a Racist Thread)
I don't think it sounds racist. I think Asians are some of the hardest working people. When I tried (yes, tried, but failed) to be a secondary school teacher some years back, I found the Asian lads to be the best. Gave one of them 'Pupil of the Year' award or something like that!
Edit: Just remembered my sig!!! LOL!
My brother told that joke, honest! I just found it amusing, but I'm not racist either!

Stop apologising. Just because your english doesnt mean you should be walking on egg shells when it comes to talking about them.
And, I agree, asian people I find are very hard working. Up at Donington Park, the business is run purely on agency staff - bar anyone with a birmingham accent and the kitchen staff. Anyway, if anyone has worked with agency staff you'll know what a bad reputation they have. Slack, lazy, and barely speak any english. But this one Chinese girl, Emily, always goes out of her way to help other staff, and does it properly.
No lie.
