I'm trying to make a compilation album of every number one hit of the 20th Century. Yes you did hear me right. ;) Now, I'm downloading them using Shareaza and in reverse order (i.e. 1999 first as the availability of tracks will be better than, say 1953) so when I get to the early ones, I can find them on albums from the library or whatever. What I want to know is, do you think I can fit them all on one 4.7GB DVD? I can only play this of course on the computer and, I presume my DVD players? (One in the lounge, one portable) I don't know how many hits there were, but if so, what would be a suitable bit rate to encode them at? I usually stick with 128 as standard. :?

Working with an average of 3.5mb per mp3 (about average) you could get about 1342 mp3s on a DVD. Now I'm guessing that there is a new number one (for example) every week, so 52 weeks = 52 mp3s per year, 20years worth of no.1's would be about 1000 songs.

So in theory they would all fit on one DVD. Btu that’s using my logic and maths. Which isn't great.

Interestingly, in 1990 there were 17 number one's, in 1999 there were 36. So it varies greatly from year to year. And don't forget the songs we'd like to forget that were at the top for more than ten weeks... Bryan Adams, Whitney and dare I say the word 'Wet' three times? ;)

Me again. Going for the hat trick. ;)

I've downloaded all of the 1990's now except for two tracks, and wondered if anyone has them as no-one on Shareaza seems to (or in the case of one of them doesn't have the version I want)

Firstly: SOS by Erasure (2nd track on their Abba-esque EP)
Found the others no problems, but the version I downloaded seemed to be a remix I didn't want.

Secondly: Game Boy by KWS. Double A-Side with Please Don't Go (which turns up on every search)

If anyone can help, I'd be much obliged. Ta. ;)

[EDIT!] I now have a copy of the Erasure track, but am still stuck for the KWS one!

Well, I've finished it. Goes up to 2002, making it '50 Years of Number One Hits'. Problem is the damn thing won't play on my portable DVD player! *fumes!*
