Apologies for dragging this thread back from the dead, but a word of advice to anyone on O2 PAYG.
Do not, repeat, do NOT, top up using a credit or debit card using hotkey 3 aka 4444. Twice now I have had a security alert placed against my card because of O2's automated system triggering a suspicious activity notice, rendering it unusable until I phone a nice Indian call centre and spend £2 of my hard earned topup.
The Average Metropol user's phone
I suppose I should end the poll and get the results in, although how to do this escapes me, I've probably ticked the wrong box or something.
And so...
In last place, with no votes, which is also tenth place: Alcatel
In a three way joint seventh place, with 1 vote each: Samsung, LG and Motorola
In joint fifth place, with 2 votes apiece: BlackBerry and the 'Other' category
In fourth place, with 7 votes: Sony Erricson
In third place, with 9 votes: HTC!
In second place, with 10 votes: The reliable old Nokia handsets
In first place, with 14 votes: Apple with their iPhone!

On Thursday, some evil little bitch stole my phone. A quick phonecall to the police and O2 later, and I have a new SIM on its way and possibly a day in court to look forward to. Have lost quite a few photos and videos from my Ireland holiday though, which I'm upset about.
It did however give me the opportunity to upgrade, so I went and got a Nokia C3. Looks like a Blackberry, works like a blackberry (built in Mail, Messenger, Facebook etc), but only runs EDGE/GPRS and WIFI - no 3G. Series 40 operating system though... slight disappointment. Lot of apps I'd like that would exploit the WIFI connection I can't download.
But for £80, you can't argue really.
PS: Oh and it enables me to access Metropol remotely for the first time. Not that I've been able to log in yet mind....

if it's because the popup isn't triggering there is a link in the footer called "advanced login" which might be of use.Alexia wrote:PS: Oh and it enables me to access Metropol remotely for the first time. Not that I've been able to log in yet mind....
Meanwhile my useless w705 is about to fall to bits. I'm getting close and closer to just cutting my loses with it and using a Nokia 1100 until Jan when I can get a replacement (v. likely HTC Desire)

Cheers for that... I have to work out how to force Opera Mini to use the WLAN connection and not use up my EDGE data... on EDGE it loads a very slow mobile-esque version of Metro, whereas when I can get online with WIFI it will load the site properly...weird.
Yup, see I said to them all that this would happen, that I wanted a link that would degrade nicely but I was told I was being fussy and trying to be too careful.Alexia wrote:Cheers for that...
As is often the case, I was right.

Thinking of getting the Motorola Milestone on contract, seeing as it's going cheap because there's a new version out. There's all sorts of nonsense though on whether it supports tethering or not - does anyone know if this is supported on a UK Milestone? I'd be disappointed for it to arrive and not be there.
And along with that - I wouldn't be buying it directly from T-Mobile but their website says the unlimited internet can't be used as a modem. Does this still apply to me, and if so is there any way of getting round it?

Just got a BlackBerry Curve on Virgin Media for £10 a month - really happy with it, though I would be after the rubbish phone I've had for 3 years,a Sagem my411x.
Oh, and I had the login problem on it yesterday - thanks for the fix Pete, though new visitors wouldn't check the footer would they? I didn't!

*sigh* again, blame Bail and Sput, they said I was being fussy about it.Jovis wrote:Just got a BlackBerry Curve on Virgin Media for £10 a month - really happy with it, though I would be after the rubbish phone I've had for 3 years,a Sagem my411x.

If anyone knows of a lightbox script that can trigger with a real URL rather than # then please do let me know in the PMs.

Did you pay for your handset? Mine's £25 a month on O2, but the phone was free. Unlimited texting, 300 minutes, 500mb Internet and BBM and all that jazz.Jovis wrote:Just got a BlackBerry Curve on Virgin Media for £10 a month - really happy with it, though I would be after the rubbish phone I've had for 3 years,a Sagem my411x.
