That's what I mean. From what I'd read over the years, I expected even national retailers, garages etc. to simply not stock it. That said, even though I do read The Sun, I was genuinely too scared to buy the thing.Philip wrote:Yes it is surprising - I regularly see people reading it on the train as well. It does seem to be generally stocked in supermarkets like Tesco but you will be frowned upon if you even attempt to bring it to the till.robschneider wrote:I was in Liverpool about 7-8 weeks ago and genuinely surprised how available The Sun generally was. The way people still go on about it, you'd think it was, effectively, a banned publication.james2001 wrote:I don't imagine many Sun readers were the types to vote Remain to begin with. They tend to be the sort of knuckle draggers mumbling about immigrants and "getting our country back". So feels like a case of preaching to the converted.
At least this move guarantees a strong Remain vote in Merseyside!
It's a very delicate subject as you can imagine. Personally, as long as The Sun continues to employ Kelvin Mackenzie in any capacity, their apologies are null and void.
The famous headline has now - finally - been confirmed as bollocks, but I'm not convinced that McKenzie was part of the cover-up, at least not directly.
