If you take guidance from metro, your assignment will make for very interesting reading.

Scones (pronounced Sc-onn-s NOT Sc-own-s (as in rhymes with Zone)) were muchly appreciated by me on Falmouth harbour front near the former Pirate Inn, opposite Tragos, with jam and butter, but only a slight bit of clotted cream as I find it sickly.
Here at home mind we prefer Welsh Cakes, or bakestones (named after the piece of solid cast iron they are baked on) although being a fruitophiliac I prefer plain ones to ones with sultanas. They are dryer and flatter than scones with a harder crust, but are the perfect accompaniment to a cup of hot sweet Glengetti made with semi-skimmed milk.

So the local names for Scones seem to be prevalent. I am think this is important... TBH I was expecting more of a negative view, but I guess making them seem modern and 'cool' wont be that big an issue...

I should perhaps point out that the Falmouth episode occurred in 2004, and that my scone consumption since then has been slightly less frequent than a Barcode post with no SPAG mistakes.

This is a dedicated scones thread. Quit peddling your Welsh stove-treats or range-drops or whatever they are called and stick to the subject.
Martin's paper is due tomorrow morning and you're really not helping with your fancy broad horizons. You're widening the scope of his study with no thought to the timeline.

That's near dog hating Swansea, isn't it?
I'd call it central southern, rather than south-east.

[Tumble Tower Mode]I apologise for this...although I fulfilled Martins request in the first half of my post, whereas the second half merely framed my personal tea-time baked treat consuption in the context of being a resident of this fine nation. Therefore the first half was for Martin's benefit, whereas the secont half was merely puffery that served no purpose other than to bring something different to the conversation for the board populus at large.[/Tumble Tower Mode]

It is pronnounced Skownes and the fruit in scones are really dead flies. My brother wised me up to that little fact when i was 5. It's as true as Santa Claus.

From Wikipedia:
Some sections of the population (nearly two thirds of the British population and 99% of the Scottish population, according to one academic study) pronounce it as /skɒn/ (to rhyme with con and John, the U English Pronunciation), and the rest pronounce it /skəʊn/ (to rhyme with cone and Joan, the Non-U English pronunciation).
