Back in '78, I went into WHSmith Records in town to buy Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene - only for young, naive me to walk out with Sweet's Love is Like Oxygen - a song which will personally haunt me for the rest of my life because of the mistake.
The first record I bought with my own money wasn't until I was 12, and that was Ace of Base "The Sign" on CD single. But the first tape I was given as a present was Bananarama "The Greatest Hits Collection" when I was 7...
My first memory of buying record wasn't actually for me. I was dragged from bed one morning, handed some cash and a note with instructions to purchase an LP. I did as I was told, then cycled to where my sister worked and told her I had done it - she was pleased! I was left bemused as to why she would want to spend her money on something possibly related to crime prevention.
