Goole reminds me a lot of the town I used to live near in Northern Ireland, Lurgan. Not the best place, but then again not the worst. I haven't experience any of the poorer or rough side of the town myself that I have heard people talk about, but to be honest it wouldn't affect my judgement that much - I don't tend to base a place on its socio-economic status, more on what it has to offer me as an individual.

I went into a pub there a few weeks ago and got strange looks from the people there, which was a bit unnerving. I only went in to ask if I could have the number of a taxi company, I couldn't find any phone boxes that had taxi firm numbers in them, never mind find where the taxi offices where. And it cost almost £10 for a three mile journey! Almost as extortiate as the bus fares.

Despite its size, there's not much in terms of shopping or leisure facilities - In terms of supermarkets, there's either Tesco, Iceland, Lidl, Farmfoods or Jack Fultons, a lot of cheap clothes shops like Ethel Austins and Peacocks, nothing like Topman or Burton. I think there used to be a cinema in Goole but it closed a while ago so if I want to go see a film I have to head to Hull or Donny. Hopefully now they've cleared the Timm's factory site they might get some decent shops or more leisure/recreational facilities.

Having said that, Goole Market isn't that bad, anytime I'm in town I call at the CD and video stall, got some real bargains there, was a great way to boost my back catalogue collection of Now! CDs and stuff I hadn't been able to find in other places. And there's a great little cybercafe in Goole which I go the odd time to spend a day off... especially when the library closes at 1pm on a Saturday, and even when it's open, it's near impossible to get a computer!

The people are actually friendly enough I've found though. The chavs aren't really all that intimidating, they let you get on with your business and don't really pose a threat or nuisance.

I think the town has been stereotyped, and I'm not sure why exactly. I don't mind the place myself, but there are places I would rather live or visit.

Mind you, £2 for a full English at the Kings Cafe on Pasture Road kind of tips the scales a bit!

You can get a nice Full English at the Supreme Coffee House on the high street (can never remember it's name), it's about half way down the bit that's pedestrians only.

A kid from my school lives there, so we all get discounts on brekkies. We even wrote a jingle!
