And the gorgeous brass lifts which were conductor operated right up until the late-90s. It also had a wonderful toy department with a permanent grotto (which had its gates shut most of the year). Happy, happy memories. The grand staircase inside was absolutely beautiful. I dread to think what's happened to it. Hopefully it's remained entact, but I doubt the public will ever get the chance to see it again.
