What bugs me on some adverts is the sample sizes that companies use to qualify their claims.
There's a spot relief product that that makes a claim that something like 89% of 37 people agree to.
37 people! That's good research.
Lies, damned lies and statistics comes to mind.

I don't get the John Lewis ad.

The tagline is 'Remember how Christmas used to feel?', but I can't remember sitting on the staircase to open my presents, alone. We also had tons of decorations - more than just a plastic tree stuck in the corner. The wrapping paper usually had festive patterns on it, too.
This is the most un-Christmassy Christmas advert I've ever seen.

but aren't the kids meant to be in place of the adults? so rather than the kid sat on the stairs on their own its meant to be an adult sat on the stairs, and getting the nice present takes them back to the childhood (and therefore in the room with everyone else).
"He has to be larger than bacon"
Bloody horrible version of "Sweet Child O'Mine" too.
Things I have learnt from Metropol
1. Wishful thinking is valid evidence for just about anything

The original Toys ᴙ Us advert is back – well it is their 25th birthday this Christmas. Even the jingles come back too!

Notice the way they have to have their official website open so people recognise who they are
