So, having in my possession a lovely new V+ box (one of the fab Samsung ones at that) with it's HD goodness I am now tempted to replace the venerable CRT with a nice flat panel.
Having spent several days pottering around shops with t'other half to find him a new 40" screen I have came to the conclusion that Samsung screens are the fabbest and don't have the backlighting problems I've previously been irritated by when it comes to LCDs.
However due to a selection of reasons I am more attracted to a 32" screen rather than a massive one. Which brings me to my question.
One of them I had been considering has a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 which is neither 720 nor 1080.

So my question is, does this matter? I suspect that there is a minor amount of overscan style image processing going on anyhow but will a tad more make a major difference?
Having said all this I am now thinking it might best to wait until new year and get some sort of 1080i/1080p panel instead in the sales.

I would imagine there will be loads of sales before Christmas (what a strange imagination i have got) and from January vat will rise back to 17.5% so that's an extra 2.5% on top of the price straight away.Hymagumba wrote: Having said all this I am now thinking it might best to wait until new year and get some sort of 1080i/1080p panel instead in the sales.
Incidentally, John Lewis will price match Richer Sounds (which currently sells it for £30 less in-store) if you call them up. The john lewis warranty is 5 years compared to the 1 year that Richer Sounds gives, but those that have tried this say JL are still price matching and throwing in the 5 year warranty anyway. That's a win

Normally yes, but John Lewis is 70 miles away and requires navigation of the worst car park in the world. Also my car is in for it's MOT/Service on Wed and will likely need a new exhaust amongst other things.Sput wrote:I assume that the Gumba impatience+car would trump willingness to have it delivered though

Well I've decided against the telly due to
1 - having no money
2 - spending £400 of my no money getting the car fixed
3 - considering the carbon footprint of disposing of my old CRT before its true end of life (ok that's a lie)
However I've recommended mummy dearest buy the above as she requires a new TV and refused my offer to take my old one and give me £100 for it. tsk @ her. It's probably because she's one of those dreadful northern any dream will do watching misfits.
No sadly, I am but too poor to buy one. If only there was some sort of money making scheme I could exploit...

I'll get to work on the Metro MMO right away!
You were going to charge your mum for an old tv you want rid of?!Hymagumba wrote:However I've recommended mummy dearest buy the above as she requires a new TV and refused my offer to take my old one and give me £100 for it. tsk @ her.
