Are the Tories finished before they start?
Cameron's slipped up a bit last couple of days - firstly he was seen fidgeting and checking his watch during the Remembrance Day service, and he has also posed for some publicity shots in front of the Westminster Abbey remembrance garden. He also seems to be coseying up to Murdoch a lot, if the Indescribablyboring is to be believed.
Sort of related, Am I the only one who thinks there has been a major witch hunt on the Sun's part against Gordon Brown. Such as using a mother's grief as a weapon to beat the prime minister with. He has enough on his plate already, he is a partially sighted man whose handwriting isn't that good, I doubt it was deliberate.
I mean, by all means, grieve. But a few mistakes on a letter should not be made into a political weapon.

Since when have the Sun ever been tactful? Up to this year they would have used the same tactics against the Tories - and if they were still anti-Tory now, they'd probably be highlighting the episodes I mentioned earlier, as well as lambasting Cameron for his recent EU-turn.Beep wrote:Sort of related, Am I the only one who thinks there has been a major witch hunt on the Sun's part against Gordon Brown. This by-election is pretty much irrelevant in terms of illustrating any swing to the Tories. You can't deduce anything about the Tories being finished before they start nationally, based on a result from Glasgow North East.
Actually you should pretty much write off any Tory performance in Scotland when trying to work out who will be in power next at Westminster. The party machine up here really hasn't changed for years, and there's very little evidence of any Cameron effect.
Partly, that's not Cameron's fault, more about the fact that reserved issues really don't turn on the voters on. Immigration and economy probably the most important, but promises on crime, health, education, transport etc. are all devolved so it's up to the SNP government to deliver on those things for now.

1st: Labour - 59% ( Maj over 8000) swing to lab 2%
2nd: SNP - 20%
3rd: Tories: - 1075 5.2%
4th: BNP: - 1013 4.9%
Tories JUST, THAT JUST saved deposit. Meanwhile, police were called in to probe reports of voting fraud.
just prove Up north We still don;t like the blue, but that not where this G election will be won or lose, that will be further south where everything is still to play for.

Oh boohoo  It's nothing to do with Brown's eyesight because he pronounced the soldier's name wrong during a speech in the House of Commons, too. Perhaps if the useless great lump spent less time globetrotting like Judith Chalmers and more time doing his job, he might've got the name right.Beep wrote:Sort of related, Am I the only one who thinks there has been a major witch hunt on the Sun's part against Gordon Brown. Simple things really get people's backs up in times like this. Personally I can't stand it when the media refer to Gordon Brown as a "world leader" - he is NOT a world leader - he's the leader of the British government! Supposedly.
We live in the electronic / digital age - all of this unnecessary chin-wagging about the global economy and climate change can be done by video conference, while occassional foreign visits can be carried out by the royal family.

to be honest, if gordo was spending hours drafting and re-drafting PERSONAL letters of condolence, then i would be worried.
the consensus from vox pops seems to be that the sun have misjudged this one badly. although that hasn't stopped you jumping on the 'OMG isn't brown terrible' bandwagon.
i'm sure he has many failings, but i don't count bad handwriting and representing the uk abroad as two of them. maybe you need to look up from your copy of the daily mail at some point and join us in the real world.
No no, I've been on that particular bandwagon for quite some time.tvmercia wrote: *yawn*

The point is that he's supposed to be our prime minister and he should be here in the UK doing something useful, not swanning off around the world to hobnob with other leaders every five minutes.tvmercia wrote:i'm sure he has many failings, but i don't count bad handwriting and representing the uk abroad as two of them.
*yawwwn* here we go again. Dismissing somebody as a Daily Mail reader just because they don't agree with your fluffy idealistic (and superficial) view of the world is SO 2005. If there's two things I'm sick of hearing about it's the SICKENING Daily Mail and the VILE BNP  Give it a frigging rest.tvmercia wrote:maybe you need to look up from your copy of the daily mail at some point and join us in the real world.
I'm also sick of hearing about Afghanistan, and the global banking meltdown catastrophe apocalypse, and the climate change that's been happening four times every year like clockwork since the beginning of time itself AND the imaginary swine flu epidemic that's actually an excuse to inject us all with conformity chemicals. Does holding those opinions mean I need 'DAILY MAIL READER' branding into my forehead as well?? Because I've never read the flipping thing in my life!
