Katie Price effigy to be torched

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8342409.stm

A huge effigy of glamour model Katie Price is to be set on fire as part of a Kent bonfire society's celebrations to mark Guy Fawkes night.

The 30ft (9.1m) celebrity guy depicts Price, also known as Jordan, holding the heads of her former husband Peter Andre and current boyfriend Alex Reid.

The effigy will be burnt by the Edenbridge Bonfire Society on Saturday.

The group said it decided not to make a guy depicting Nick Griffin because it thought it would be "too political".

The effigy of Price, who lives in Surrey, is shown clutching celebrity gossip magazines and tabloid newspapers in her other hand.

Charles Laver, co-ordinator of the bonfire society, said: "We chose Katie because we needed a guy for this year and there wasn't really anybody in the frame.

"I hope she takes it in good faith. We are only doing this for the fun of it. We are not doing it because we don't like the lady or anything like that."

He added: "We didn't want to do Nick Griffin because we felt he had received too much publicity already.

"Also, we are not a political organisation, we do this just for the fun of it and we didn't want to aggravate people too much by choosing someone like Nick.

"I'm pleased with the result and I'm sure others will be too."

Thousands of people are expected to watch the group ignite the guy during the town's celebrations, which include a torchlight procession and fireworks display.

Last year's celebrity guy depicted Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand. Other past effigies have included Cherie Blair, racing pundit John McCririck, Saddam Hussein and politicians John Prescott and Edwina Currie.

I enjoy the sober way that the headline appears on the BBC news top 10

As much as I don't like Jordan, isn't this horrible?!

Not really, they do it every year to whatever non-political figure is in the news a lot.

Now taking intrusive photographs of kids and mounting arbitrary bullying campaigns and splashing them across tabloid pages day after day in the name of celebrity gossip, THAT is horrible.

Nah. If you listen to the chappy in the video clip (and in the article), he says, "it a bit of fun and its not as if we dislike the lady".

(ROFL @ "lady")

On the other hand if I had an effigy of her I would burn it out of spite.

She's nothing but a pig in knickers. Well, she would be if she wore any.

As these last few months have progressed she told that lie about being "raped by a celebrity", as she realised her star was on the wane - well, that did it for me.

Wretched woman. She gives me the dry boake.
