The opposition at the time of the 1992 election became unelectable following 'The Sheffield Rally' - Google it. It showed them to be a rabid collection of power crazed individuals rather than an alternative government, and the Country decided to reject the alternative and stay with John Major.

Labour's vote fell by 6.9% in the European elections but the Tories only went up by 1%.

People either support the Tories or they don't. this might be good for the people then, as it might make the Tories and labour and everyone else have a a scrum to get votes and make alot of people to come out and vote. 60% is not good.
