This may be of interest to some members. Student loans go interest free because of deflation, and even shrink for those in highger education between 1990 and 1997.

Bane of my bloody life.
I applied later than usual this year, and luckily got notification that they would begin paying from the 14th September (When Glasgow Uni starts freshers) but nothing came until yesterday and they told me the DWP had not verified my Nat Insurance card so I had to send it into the Student Loans Company.
So I took it to the offices in Glasgow personally and posted it through this afternoon.
Half an hour later my loan appeared.
In writing, it doesn't sound so horrific but with £15 in the bank on Monday morning, the panic began to set it... student life, eh?

Umm..'my day' was 2001-2006. Even back then, student loans had interest on them. Interest at base rate, but interest nevertheless.
Before you march with your fellow freshers about how shocking it is that students should have to pay for things, remember that the student loan is the best finance deal you will ever have in your life.
