Adverts that irritate and entertain
Oh I love Asda. It's just so much friendlier than sterile Tesco. The Southerner wrote:As for the 'saving you money every day' (what a rubbish slogan) ASDA adverts, in the past month they have used the Billy Childish version of 'Who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler?', a terrible remix of the famous ASDA jingle and a remixed version of the 'Top Cat' theme tune.
To ASDA Marketing Executives.
Just face it. Everyone knows the traditional 'That's ASDA Price!' adverts with the double pocket tap (or should that be slap?) and the jingle, even in 'the making of the adverts' video you have posted on your 'SavingYouMoneyTV' youtube channel one of your staff was singing the traditional slogan. So just bring it back and more people will go to ASDA. Stop showing the 'price comparing' adverts because if you say you are cheaper than someone noone will believe you and they go straight to Tesco. Open up some convienience shops and don't say they are not profitable after a year because that is not long enough to decide in. Go back to your roots and understand that your trying to turn into Walmart and that you are British.
With Thanks,
The Southerner
For everyone here on Metropol, here is the current ASDA jingle!

I also prefered these jingles: http://up.metropol247.co.uk/Chie/ASDA.mp3
Surely that's the postmodern version of the man-who-always-loses-has-something-to-rely-on advert they showed on Top Gear t'other week?Chie wrote:VW Passat.

If that man's just been made redundant then it looks like he's going to have to flog that shiny new Volkswagen anyway - and the private plate! He won't be so fucking smug then.

That one gets me goat too. One that's made me wonder about advertising small print is the current Head and Shoulders adverts which have the slogan "Don't break up with your hair!". At the bottom, the small print reads "Refers to hair breakage".Sput wrote:Authoritative Looking Man, who is introduced by a very subtle caption (there for precisely 1 second, presumably the legal minimum time) that identifies him as not a dentist but a "customer adviser" for GSK, who make the toothpaste.
Why? If your slogan needs explanation in small print, then it's pretty crap.
I think the conecpt is too introspective and self-aware. Like I keep saying with regard to television programmes, most people want escapism from adverts too. Adverts aren't supposed to provide an introspective analysis of modern society and current affairs. 1, it's not their job - leave it to the news, and 2, it doesn't sell product.Alexia wrote:Surely that's the postmodern version of the man-who-always-loses-has-something-to-rely-on advert they showed on Top Gear t'other week?
It's kind of ironic though that the recession was brought about partially by too much consumerism in the first place. And now they're using it to perpetuate even more consumerism. (I'm rolling my eyes.)
Anyway, while we're on the car adverts, the one I hate more than any other at the moment is this wanky load of rubbish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6uxSjuDF1A - every time it comes on I feel instantly depressed by that music. The whole advert is so slow and miserable.
Here are some exciting and/or fun car adverts from days of yore:
Fiat Regata: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFkVYdxgnVk
Renault 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwlZ2RWIqeA
Vauxhall Cavalier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cb3cl-tyxM
Oh the adverts are very good on a technical level. Which is good for people who simply like to watch adverts, but it's not going to sell the product. People want to buy into a fantasy and I don't think the raw reality of recession is going to do it, nor is depressing plinky-plonky music.Jovis wrote:You have terrible taste Chie, you seem to hate a lot of good or not bad adverts.
Are you so simple that you can only interpret the mere presence of arranged music as being depressing?
that is a fantastic piece of music, very emotional- does anyone know if it was an original piece?Chie wrote:
