Up All Night presenter on Five Live. Got an MBE for "services to the arts".

And mumbling incoherently about far-flung football, presumably.

Lots of people seem to dislike Dotun as a presenter, not me however I find him a very interesting and pleasant listen. Obviously he's not in his weekday counterpart Rhod Sharp's league.

Rhod only does 2 or 3 nights and Dotun the rest.

It's very obvious when he's doing subjects he likes and when he's not. It's like listening to two different people. Spending half a night discussing "world football" has always seemed odd to me, I mean talk about limiting your audience... only people interested in African and South American football could listen to that. How many people is that? At least then he'll sound awake and interested. Most of the rest of the time he sounds close to asleep with a voice that sometimes sounds as if it's about to turn into a snore.

I've got no problem with Dotun as a presenter, but the content at the weekend, especially the world football bore me. The books phone in on sundays is just as bad although i can see that's got more general appeal.

Talking of which anyone know if they did a science phone in on thursday? the podcast is missing again

Surely the wee-small hours with a tiny listenership is the best place for all these niche subjects?

Doctor Karl is fantastic. Wasted at that time of the night! I don't think he was on this week but there is the usual science stuff on the BBC iPlayer programme from 0300.

Karl is good, but I prefer it when Dr Chris fills in - he seems to understand the questions better and has the answers more often

In a way yes, however the smaller the audience the fewer the number of people that will be interested, or even know about it

I just love "Up All Night", especially when they do the US-UK simulcast phone-ins. They must be an absolute nightmare to achieve, though I'm sure once you've done one as a Studio Manager, they're pretty similar? The radio anorak comes right back out of me when they do those! I think they've been doing them for donkey's years. I seem to remember listening to one at the start of Gulf War 1... I think the anorak in me is awakened by the ABC news sequence for much the same reason. Someone enlighten me - is the ABC Radio news sequence played on the show the US's equivalent of IRN or something like that - a national news feed for affiliated stations?

The Dr Karl spot is terrific, though as it tends to be a show I listen to at bedtime or when insomnia strikes, I seldom remember when he's actually supposed to be on, it's just something I happen upon once in a while. I don't follow footy so the World Football phone-in doesn't float my boat particularly, but I do like the international nature of having guests in South America and so-on.

Dotun clearly likes his reading - as his books phone in can also be very good if bizarre at times when callers suggest the weirdest material that his guest might like to get hold of.

It's a great show. Like the BBC World Service, I suspect few people in the county listen to it, or even know of it's existance (though of course, since the WS has appeared on DAB, digital TV and iPlayer, I suspect more home listeners are discovering it),

There's been a female Northern Irish newsreader on some nightshifts on UAN and she has the worst newsreading voice I have ever heard. Between her nasal snarls and Dotun's mumbling it makes me turn over to the World Service instantly. It's a much better show when Mark Forrest stands in.

There's been a really dreadful male newsreader on UAN recently. He sounds early 20s and reads in a monotone, stumbling with all the wrong internations. He sounds like a work experience placement who's sitign in because the regular newsreader's fallen asleep
