Do they not have thick yellow lines on the platform these days? With a Do not stand over this line or something written in big bold yellow letters.
That was one of the first things i saw when i came back round. It's still a bit hazy to this day.

This station is really old and had it all worn off. What I have noticed is they have some plastic bobbly stuff now and a fluorescent line now.

I was too busy talking to notice I was stepping backwards until it was too late. The last word I said before falling was "Shit".

The Darwin Awards are calling. Who walks BACKWARDS on a platform TOWARDS the rails?!?!

Just how heavily are we talking? What is there on a train station platform to distract you? Did you hear the word "Manchester" perchance?

To be fair I can see how that'd happen. You're not going to see the lines if you're looking at someone and you may not be paying attention to the bumpy bit under your feet, if it's even there at all.

sorry lorna but I've been sniggering at that for about 5 mins now. As revenge I'll let you have a good cackle about me breaking my wrist when I ran to ethusiastically tell my friend that I'd passed my driving test, and therefore was unable to drive for a fortnight.
I fell off the platform at a place called Berkswell and broke my wrist, I got myself up to find towering above me 2 police officers and Network Rail security and they tried to give me a fine. They said a max. fine of £8,000 and/or a custodial sentence, they wouldn't let me say I had fallen off, onto the track. In the end the police had said there lecture and I said I fell off and they just said "Oh" and then they called me an ambulance, because my wrist was swollen.
I'm sorry but that is absolutely superb! I echo others comments in how you manage to "fall" off a platform? Just be thankful that the platforms aren't that high at Berkswell else it could have been a lot nastier. Do be more careful in the future, if you can ever bring yourself to stand on a platform ever again.
Good Lord!

Wait. Let me get this straight. You need a big yellow line to tell you not to stand close to the edge of the platform at a train station? Just how dumb are you?

How distracted where you anyway? Was James Blunt singing 'You're Beautiful' while strumming a guitar with his knob?

Oh, do piss off. I'm on a train again, back from a very long and tiring day at a drama school, where I might or might not be offered a place, and I'm not in the mood to be corrected by a 15 year old busybody who can't even keep his feet on a bit of concrete without toppling off onto a set of rails.

At least when I went to get on the train there WAS ACTUALLY A TRAIN THERE. Oh - and I wasn't a "Heavily Distracted teenager", whatever the hell one of those is (read: fuckwit).
