Credit of course to the wonderful Sput for the creation of the original. And some credit to the mental one for providing such amazing material.

for those who care, a minor update has just been uploaded - change log (for those who really care) on the first page.

For everyone else, the important and exciting update should occur this evening...

I can't see any links to the changelog, is this your idea of transparent administration?

Oh, was I looking in the wrong place or is it in the wrong place to begin? Any chance of a changelog somewhere on the upload page?

Sorry to be a bore but....

The hosting service is for TVF / Metro stuff ONLY. It's NOT for hosting your own files for your chums, it's not a replacement for rapidshare and yousendit.

We might have unlimited bandwidth / space but one of the stipulations on it is we don't try and run rapidshare on the cheap. Now if we're just having a system for attachments to forum posts thats fine, but if people start uploading multipart RAR files then the me, and my host, shall not be impressed.

And there is a link under the button saying only click if you agree to the rules, and one of those rules is, don't use it as your backup system.

So stop it.

ta
xx

p.s. the upload button now disabled once clicked, no more accidental double uploads. YAY

Righty, I THINK I've managed to get sensible URLs for uploads working, albeit with some constraints. It's now all indexed by the original file name (with certain letters filtered out). It's down for a few more minutes while I finish up.

http://up.metropol247.co.uk/sput/ here, for example, is my index.

Everyone has one, assuming they've uploaded something. The important point is this: Spaces are replaced by underscores in these addresses. If Nick Harvey uploads a file named "Ten commandments.jpg" then the URL will be http://up.metropol247.co.uk/nick_harvey ... dments.jpg

Not that he does.

Anyway, feel free to find flaws and feed them back. I'm pretty sure there will be as there's a lot of input validation for this bit!

PS: Asterisks and dashes in names should work fine, so it's /dr_lobster* for example.

BUT WAIT. THERE'S MORE: "Hidden" files will have the numerical, anonymous sort of URL but the non-hidden ones will be linked through /your_user_name/whatever_it_was_called.ext

and now there's a snazzy "upload in progress" thingy. i'd give the thing a new number but we appear to be running out of the things and it's not quite 1.0 yet. tsk.
