I don't know whether or not karma exists - that is question of faith, in my view. My suspicion is probably not, for the reasons lukey outlined in terms of false positives. I find that's a compelling argument. But if people derive some comfort from the idea that it exists, and will act more humanely towards one another on the basis that it does, then that should be welfare-improving for society and therefore a good thing. Ultimately, whether or not it actually exists is irrelevant - so long as people act on the basis that it does (or at least might), then we should benefit from it.

I got the following email the other day
As you might know, the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started kindergarten

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts

One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time

One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike because of an auto accident

One of them missed his bus

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change

One's Car wouldn't start

One went back to answer the telephone.

One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have

One couldn't get a taxi

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone .....all the little things that annoy me, I think to myself, "This is exactly where my guardian angel wants me to be at this very moment".

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong, the children are slow getting dressed, you can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light, don't get mad or frustrated; It may be just that someone is watching over you.

May Love continue to find you with all those annoying little things and may you remember their possible purpose.
It's very nice, but even with my belief of cosmic balancing, I'm sure there were people who were held at traffic lights, missed a train, forgot their wallet, but still made into the towers in time for their end...

By "nice" I'm sure you mean patronising, saccharin, life-coaching rubbish.

I like sharing real experiences - but this is just brazenly hijacking an already overly referred to tragedy with a bunch of totally invented scenarios. As you say, even if it were all true there were just as many killed who happened to answer a phone or stop for a pee.

Its nonsense. And actually quite offensive when you think about the fact that those 9/11 "experiences" been invented by some twat who thinks we'll be better people if we cherish annoyances.

What about those whose train was early, or who had every traffic light at green or who came in early so they would finish early for their children's Birthday party. They ended up in the towers when they would usually be well away from them and thus got killed? Did they have a Guardian Angel pushing them into danger?

I'm glad I don't align myself to any recognised faith if that's what some of the religious icons get up to in their spare time!
