Filming for Jonathan Ross's TV chat show will go ahead at Television Centre later despite the Radio 2 prank call row, the BBC has said.
But Sir David Attenborough, due on as a guest, says he is "discussing the situation with the BBC".

The BBC could not confirm whether Ross's Saturday morning Radio 2 show, as well as Brand's Saturday night show, will also go ahead as planned.

I don't know what to make of the whole thing really. That sort of behaviour is okay when you're young, but Ross is nearly 50 and it isn't acceptable. People seem to have forgotten there comes a time where you just have to grow up and take life a bit more seriously, and be more sensitive to other people's feelings. You can't act like a rebelious teenager your whole life; once you reach 30 it's not big or clever anymore.
I think the BBC should sack Ross and Brand for the sake of it, just to see what happens and what they do next. They earn too much money anyway.

The BBC today issued a statement from Mark Thompson, Director-General.
"I would like to add my own personal and unreserved apology to Andrew Sachs, his family and to licence fee payers for the completely unacceptable broadcast on BBC Radio 2.
"BBC audiences accept that, in comedy, performers attempt to push the line of taste. However, this is not a marginal case. It is clear from the views expressed by the public that this broadcast has caused severe offence and I share that view.
"Since Sunday, I have been in regular contact with the senior executives I tasked with handling this issue. The investigation that I instructed Tim Davie to conduct is nearing completion, and I am returning to London to review the findings and, in the coming days, announce what action we will take.
"In the meantime, I have decided that it is not appropriate for either Russell Brand or Jonathan Ross to continue broadcasting on the BBC until I have seen the full report of the actions of all concerned.
"This gross lapse of taste by the performers and the production team has angered licence payers. I am determined that we satisfy them that any lessons will be learnt and appropriate action taken. I have been asked to report to the Trust's Editorial Standards Committee before the end of this week and will discuss with the Trust the findings of the report and the actions I propose."

Both of them are fucking idiots, but turning to the green screen for a moment, I'd like to point something out with regards to the number of complaints:

Most people - unless they read Birdsong, where DAS first referenced the prank - wouldn't have been aware of the show, never mind the content of one segment; but on reading the transcript they are justifiably outraged.
"He fucked your granddaughter" is a foul thing to say to someone. Really horrible. If he was in my employ he would be sacked. No question about it. Most companies would take a similar view.
There's pushing taste boundaries, and there's acting like a teenage prick and offending someone from the safety of the other end of a phone.
God knows I've done some risky material on stage before - and that involved alluding to some saucy goings-on - but this was beyond the pale.

2. Ross is seen as overpaid
3. People don't like the license fee
and so they'll complain because it's easy to kick a Beeb while it's down. As for the actual event, I think nearly everyone involved fucked this up:
- The editing guy shouldn't have let it air
- Sachs' agent shouldn't have tried to promote on that show ESPECIALLY given the past mentions of the granddaughter being nobbed by Brand and should have let them know something had come up so they wouldn't have to randomly fill.
- Ross shouldn't have said anything (obviously) like he did
- The Mail made the humiliation ten times worse with all the pictures of the daft bint and stirring it all up
- Sachs was an idiot if he thought the above wouldn't happen when he stuck his head above the parapet
The weird thing is that Brand did very little to contribute apart from the dirty deed itself, which is all fine and dandy these days.

In any case I loathe Jonathan Ross and his "interviews". He an utter schmoozer who just fills the time talking rubbish and exchanging cheap sexual puns, to the extent that even if he's interviewing someone you do like, the show is tedious to watch and you learn nothing new about the interviewee at all.
I've never really liked Jonathan Ross and I'm not sure how he manages to command such a high salary; but each to their own, alot of people obviously find him entertaining. I've tried watching his Friday night show when he's been interviewing somebody I wanted to see, but I felt quite let down by the experience and haven't bothered again for quite a while. I struggle to understand why he is the highest paid presenter on the BBC.
I've never understood Russell Brand. His humour doesn't appeal to me at all. I go out of my way to avoid programmes he takes part in. There is obviously a market for his 'talent' though.
